As a result, I have reached a point where I organized my own events, laying the groundwork for the next generation of resident DJs,” shared DLV, resident at Grelle Forelle in Vienna.

This can also happen with touring DJs but when you have the same audience every weekend, it’s a true challenge that sets the resident DJ as something unique with valuable.

The allure of booking high-profile artists and the desire for novelty have led many venues to prioritize guest appearances. Yet, we must not underestimate the enduring appeal of a resident DJ who knows how to craft an immersive experience and foster a sense of community within a specific venue.

“Residents have the responsibility of selecting and curating the music that sets the mood and energy of the venue or event they are a resident of. They usually have a deep knowledge of various genres and subgenres, and they use their expertise to craft a cohesive and engaging musical experience for the specific audience of the collective,” added Grace Dahl.
The impact of resident DJs on the club scene extends beyond the individual artist or venue. Residencies become part of a city’s cultural heritage, drawing enthusiasts from far and wide to experience the unique sonic landscape cultivated by these talented individuals.
DLV also mentioned, “I strongly believe that residents are the backbone of every scene and help shape the identity of a nightclub. They serve as musical directors and the initial connectors to the crowd. No one knows a club’s dance floor better than its resident DJ, who has the capability to hand over to the headliner without putting themselves in the spotlight. Therefore, the role of a resident DJ is incredibly important.”
Good resident DJs have the ability to create a unique experience, adapt to changing trends, and foster a loyal following, this should not be underestimated, on the contrary, it should be celebrated. The modern club scene owes much of its vibrancy and cultural impact to the dedication and artistry of resident DJs, and their influence is poised to endure in the years to come.
