Matthew McBriar, one-half of the electronic music duo Bicep, is currently recovering in hospital following surgery for a rare brain tumor.

The Belfast-born artist shared details of his medical journey in an Instagram post on August 13th. McBriar experienced “intense localized headaches” accompanied by unusual fatigue, prompting medical investigation. An MRI scan revealed a “large and pretty rare” craniopharyngioma tumor on his pituitary gland.

Despite the serious diagnosis, McBriar reassured fans that the tumor is “almost certainly not cancerous” and was fortunately detected early. He underwent successful surgery on August 9th and now faces a recovery period of six to eight weeks, followed by what he describes as a “long road of aftercare.”

In light of his condition, McBriar announced that his Bicep partner, Andy Ferguson, will handle the duo’s upcoming shows solo until further notice. This temporary arrangement ensures that Bicep’s commitments are met while allowing McBriar to focus on his recovery.
