Disco Pogo has announced the release of Bugged Out! ‘It’s Just a Big Disco: 30 Years of the Seminal Club’, a new limited edition book celebrating three decades of one of the UK’s most influential club nights. Available from November 26th, ‘It’s Just a Big Disco’ is presented as a 3000-copy limited edition priced at £35.00.
Edited by Bugged Out co-founder Johnno Burgess, the book collects interviews with longtime guest DJs such as The Chemical Brothers, Erol Alkan, Tiga, Miss Kittin, Hot Chip, and 2manydjs. It also features oral histories by writers Jim Butler, Ralph Moore, Luke Bainbridge, and Burgess himself, documenting the club’s defining eras at Sankeys Soap in Manchester, Nation in Liverpool, The End in London, and the Weekenders at Butlins.
Beyond the story of Bugged Out, the book serves as a chronicle of UK club culture from the mid-1990s onward, reflecting shifts in music, fashion, and photography — from DIY snapshots to the Instagram age. It captures the highs and lows of running a night, from early 600-capacity gigs to last year’s sold-out 12,000-capacity anniversary event in London.
The narrative is punctuated with memorable anecdotes — a rumored Daft Punk set in Ibiza, Miss Kittin upending the rules at Heaven, and Erol Alkan’s first “proper club” gig — all brought to life with hundreds of flyers, lineups, and photographs by Luke Dyson, Mark McNulty, Tom Horton, Alistair Allan, and others, including a portrait of Miss Kittin by Wolfgang Tillmans.
