Captain Mustache returns with his latest full-length project, ‘Luz’, out now via mobilee. The 11-track album blends electro, wave, EBM, techno, and rap across a deeply personal, collaborative body of work.

Following a run of singles and celebrated releases on Kompakt, Permanent Vacation, and Bedrock, the French producer now lands on mobilee with a record shaped by emotional contrasts and a clear affinity for the long-play format. Eschewing strict club functionality, ‘Luz’ unfolds as a textured journey through retro-futurist tones and synth nostalgia.

The album features high-profile collaborations across its tracklist. ‘The Pathetic’ reunites Captain Mustache with Play Paul—brother of Daft Punk’s Guy-Manuel—while ‘Vertigo’, the album’s lead single, brings rhythmic intensity from Third Culture (Sian and Sacha Robotti). Mel E. Logan of Chicks on Speed returns for the moody ‘Pen Weapon’, and Jean Brock lends sleek late-night energy to ‘La Vertu’. On ‘La Nuit’, techno mainstay Popof joins for a cosmic, club-tested cut, while CS Rucker injects sharp bars and broken beat flair into ‘No Retreat’.

Solo moments include the chugging, standout ‘Dancing Like Muffins’, the title track’s Detroit-leaning electro drive, and the slinky, synth-soaked grooves of ‘Black Light’. As a whole, the album balances club momentum with reflective headphone listening, offering a multidimensional sound rooted in 80s and 90s aesthetics.
