A rare track from Carl Craig’s archives is seeing its first digital release as part of the soundtrack to the forthcoming documentary ‘Desire: The Carl Craig Story’. Titled ‘The Truth’, the piece stems from Craig’s Designer Music alias and originally appeared as the B-side to 2000’s ‘Problemz’. Now re-edited and remastered, ‘The Truth’ is available via Planet E Communications, with the full soundtrack set for release on June 20th, 2025. Vinyl and CD editions will follow on July 18th.
The official soundtrack features a broad selection from Craig’s catalog, including key tracks such as ‘At Les’, ‘No More Words’, and 69’s ‘Desire’. The digital release also includes Craig’s Grammy-nominated Junior Boys remix, music from aliases like Innerzone Orchestra and Psyche/BFC, and collaborations with Moritz von Oswald and Versus. Several of the included tracks have never been made available digitally before.
The film, directed by Jean-Cosme Delaloye and produced by Sovereign Films, charts Craig’s journey from Detroit’s middle-class neighborhoods to international recognition. It explores his musical, artistic, and cultural contributions, including his Party/After-Party installation and work with Bottega Veneta. Interviews feature Gilles Peterson, Roni Size, Laurent Garnier, DJ Minx, Kenny Larkin, Moritz von Oswald, and James Lavelle.
Following a premiere at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival, the documentary saw a theatrical release in the UK and Ireland on May 8th. Special screenings were held at Detroit’s Michigan Central on May 22nd and 23rd as part of Movement Festival’s programming, honoring Craig near The Station — a longstanding inspiration for the artist.
