Chicago house pioneer William Stover passes away

He experienced many health issues and underwent several surgeries.

The Chicago house music community mourns the loss of William Stover, a revered artist who passed away on Saturday, July 6th, after enduring numerous health issues and surgeries. The news was shared on Facebook by fellow house music pioneer Chip E. on Monday, July 8th.

Stover made a significant impact on the house music scene. His 1987 deep house single ‘I’ll Never Let You Go,’ released via Trax Records, is one of his most celebrated works. He also collaborated with Chip E. on the 1987 single ‘Godfather Of House.’ Under the alias Chubby, Stover produced notable tracks such as ‘Work The Wax’ for Chilly T and ‘Must Be The Music’ for Faheem, both released through Dance Mania.

In the late 1980s, Stover formed several collaborative projects, including The Sweat Boyz with Adonis and The Spontaneous Ones, The Jury, and Two Of A Kind with Lidell Townsell.

The house music community remembers William Stover not only for his musical contributions but also for his enduring legacy.
