AlphaTheta, the parent company of Pioneer DJ, has announced the launch of ChordCat — a new portable groovebox designed to streamline the creation of chord progressions and sequencing on the go.
ChordCat centers on intuitive chord generation, offering users access to over 110,000 possible chord combinations. The device includes a ChordCruiser mode, powered by a custom algorithm that cycles through compatible chords based on the current key. Users can audition chords and assign favorites directly to the keyboard for easy triggering, either manually or automatically.
Eighteen built-in chord progression presets are also available, ranging from standard major and minor to genre-tailored options like house and future bass. The groovebox’s four-by-four playback grid allows users to adjust sequence direction in real time, unlocking new variations and creative ideas.
Equipped with 145 sounds and 16 drum kits, ChordCat supports eight simultaneous tracks and up to 16 patterns per track, with each pattern offering up to 128 steps. Effects include an arpeggiator, delay, and ducker, along with a low-pass filter and amp envelope for deeper sound shaping.
For connectivity, ChordCat features USB-C and MIDI DIN I/O ports, and is compatible with all major DAWs. It ships with management software and a license for Ableton Live Lite. Power options include USB-C or six AA batteries, making it suited for portable use. Audio output is handled via stereo TRS and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
ChordCat is available now for US$322. For more information and specs, visit the official AlphaTheta website here.
