Coral Tide: Bridging timeless sounds & visual aesthetics

From years spent honing their craft in Argentina’s thriving electronic music scene to garnering support from legends like Hernan Cattaneo and Above & Beyond, Hernan and Matias now unite their complementary talents under a brand-new imprint: Coral Tide. Hernan’s extensive experience – shaped by label management and countless hours behind the decks—meets Mati’s evolving sonic approach, where organic textures blend effortlessly with forward-thinking electronic motifs.

Their initial releases, including Mati’s ‘Ease’ and Hernan’s ‘Whisper Meeting’, showcase Coral Tide’s commitment to timeless sounds that transcend trends, underscored by evocative visuals that complete the musical journey. EG caught up with the duo to discuss how their backgrounds converged, the vision fueling Coral Tide’s launch and the path they see ahead for both the label and the wider electronic community.

EG: Hi Hernan and Matias, welcome to EG! What inspired you to launch Coral Tide, and what’s your vision for the label?

Hernan & Mati: First off, thanks for having us! We’re really excited to share Coral Tide with your audience and the world. We believe music has the power to transcend barriers, and its true value lies in the emotional impact it leaves on the listener. That’s the foundation of our label—releasing music that resonates deeply and stands the test of time, regardless of where it comes from or how it was made.

When we started talking about launching a label, it was clear we had a shared vision. We weren’t interested in chasing trends or simply building a catalog; we wanted to create a home for music that truly moves people. Coral Tide is about curating sounds that feel timeless, where every release carries depth and meaning.

EG: How did you choose ‘Ease’ and ‘Whisper Meeting’ as Coral Tide’s opening releases, and do they define the label’s overall musical direction?

Hernan & Mati: We felt the best way to define Coral Tide’s musical identity was to start with tracks that showcase the feel we’re looking for. In doing so, we’re also setting a reference point for future artists who want to join the label.

Looking at how organic house and progressive house have evolved over the years, it’s clear there’s still so much potential in their musicality. But we’re not bound by genres—what matters most is the feeling the music evokes. Anything in between is welcome, as long as it resonates with us and fits the soul of the label.

EG: Why are artistic visuals and aesthetics so important to Coral Tide?

Hernan & Mati: From the logo to the artwork and even the way we present ourselves on social media, we wanted everything to feel intentional. For us, music is an experience that goes hand in hand with visuals. The first thing you see before even listening to a track is its artwork, so it should give you a sense of the journey you’re about to take before you even press play.

EG: How do your different backgrounds complement each other in building Coral Tide?

Hernan: I met Matias a few years ago, while I was teaching at the School of Music in Buenos Aires. He showed incredible focus and passion for music. We share musical aspects that allow us to move in the same direction while keeping individual points of view.

Mati: When I met Hernan, his professionalism really stood out to me. He’s always emphasized how dedication and consistency are key to achieving your dreams, and that mindset has had a big impact on me as I continue developing my own sound.

Starting the label wasn’t something I had planned. Hernan was the one who presented the idea, and I accepted because I knew he had the experience I lacked to take on the challenges ahead. While I focus on curating the music and shaping the artistic direction, his deep knowledge of running labels and navigating the industry has been invaluable. Even though we share the same core values, we have different perspectives that complement each other, and that dynamic helps bring out the best in both of us.

“When it comes to my music, the core idea always matters most to me, rather than the genre it ends up falling into” – Mati

EG: Mati, how does your sound fit into Coral Tide’s ethos, and how do you hope it sets the label apart?

Mati: When it comes to my music, the core idea always matters most to me, rather than the genre it ends up falling into. I never create music with a specific label in mind; I just focus on something that resonates.

I want people to remember my songs long after they’ve heard them. That’s why I make sure every track has something worth recalling—be it a catchy melody, an emotive chord progression, or a motif that lingers. As long as it makes you feel something, that’s the key. That’s the same approach I want for Coral Tide: music that truly connects with people and evokes emotion.

EG: Hernan, what lessons from running Low Pressings are you bringing to Coral Tide, and how is this new venture different?

Hernan: I’ve been running Low Pressings since 2008, which allowed me to learn how logistics and distribution work, how to establish strong relations with artists, and how to pursue long-term objectives. LP focused more on progressive and tech house, but with Coral Tide, I wanted a fresh start to explore a new sonic direction.

EG: Your most recent release, ‘For Me’ by Fran Baigo, rounds out the label’s initial quartet of offerings. How do you select artists for Coral Tide, and what kind of sounds are you looking to showcase going forward?

Hernan & Mati: One of the things we wanted to do with our label was to create opportunities for new talent. We started by reaching out to artists we knew and whose music we saw real potential in. Many of those who have released with us so far are people we’ve met along the way in our careers, and seeing them eager to be part of this journey makes us appreciate even more the relationships that music allows us to build and share with the world.

When it comes to sound, we believe musicality is one of the most important aspects—if not the most important. With technology making music production more accessible than ever, what really stands out to us are tracks that go beyond just grooves. We want our releases to tell a story, to have depth and emotion that listeners can connect with.

EG: How do you see Coral Tide contributing to Argentina’s electronic scene and the global community?

Hernan & Mati: Argentina is our home; this is where everything started for us, and there will always be a deep connection to the sounds that shaped who we are. But as we’ve grown, we’ve realized how music from all over the world plays a role in shaping not just our own sound, but the future of the artists around us as well.

That’s why we put so much emphasis on transcending barriers with our music. At the end of the day, music is a universal language, and we want Coral Tide to be a home for any artist who shares that belief. We know that listeners will only benefit from diversity in our catalog, and we’re excited to keep building something that reflects that.

“We’re focused on creating music that truly connects with listeners, but we also want to make sure the tracks resonate with the artists and DJs we admire” – Hernan & Mati

EG: Both of you have had tracks supported by big names like Hernan Cattaneo, Above & Beyond, and more. How does receiving support from such influential artists shape your direction, and does it influence the label’s curatorial process?

Hernan & Mati: Receiving support from such influential artists has been incredible. It’s both an honor and a confirmation that we’re on the right path. Their encouragement pushes us to continue refining our sound and evolving.

We’re focused on creating music that truly connects with listeners, but we also want to make sure the tracks resonate with the artists and DJs we admire. If they connect with the music, they’re more likely to play it, which helps us reach new ears. Ultimately, it’s about creating something lasting and meaningful that resonates on all levels.

EG: Looking ahead, what can listeners and fans expect from Coral Tide in the coming months? Are there any new releases or collaborations you’re excited about?

Hernan & Mati: Coral Tide has some exciting things on the horizon. We’ve got new releases lined up and we’re working on collaborations that we’re really thrilled about. Our goal is to continue sharing music that feels authentic and meaningful, while expanding our reach and connecting with more artists and listeners who share our vision. We’re excited to keep building this journey and can’t wait to show you what’s next!

EG: Thanks for the time and all the best!

Hernan & Mati: Likewise!
