Austin-based producer Daniel Allen has released his latest LP entitled ‘Phantoms of My Former Self’, an eight-track journey through a range of electronic styles. Released on his own imprint, Denied Music, the record showcases the artist’s versatility and range, drawing on influences from jungle and techno to deep house and breakbeat.

The album kicks off with the drum and bass-influenced ’72 Hours’, which features emotive vocals and a contemplative synth pad. From there, Allen takes the listener on a journey that includes the funky garage stylings of ‘2B Goodat’, the jazzy house rhythms of ‘Water Weasel’ and ‘Flights of Fancy’, and the synth-heavy ‘Shakes and Shrugs’ with its bright 4×4 beat. ‘Totem’ is a standout track, starting off with an electro-tinged sound before building to a catchy melody and memorable drum drop. The LP closes with ‘Too Much Telephone Call’, which showcases Allen’s talent for beautiful synth melodies set to a broken beat.
