Deer Jade & Sam Shure discuss ‘Cybernetic Symphony’

Having first met in Amsterdam through mutual friends from TGOB, Deer Jade and Sam Shure’s collaboration reflects years of friendship and shared musical curiosity. Their creative synergy grew during a period of living together in Berlin, where spontaneous jams and an open-minded approach laid the foundation for ‘Cybernetic Symphony’.

Released on May 23rd, ‘Cybernetic Symphony’ blends organic and electronic textures, fusing ethereal melodies, intricate percussion, and futuristic synths to create an immersive listening experience.

Inspired by a spontaneous studio session, the track emerged from playful experimentation and a desire to create something surprising yet rooted in dance music. The release also includes a dynamic remix by OJO label boss Bora Uzer, who reimagines the original with a driving arp and his signature soulful twist.

In this conversation, Deer Jade and Sam Shure open up about their creative process, the spark of spontaneity that defines the track, and the supportive environment they found with OJO.

EG: Hello, Deer Jade and Sam, welcome to EG. First, congrats on the ‘Cybernetic Symphony’ release! How did the concept for the song come together?

Deer Jade: Thanks! We wanted to create a fun, playful track that would surprise the listeners and sound out of the ordinary, while still having a strong dance character.

Sam Shure: Thanks for the invite. It all came together during a fun studio session with no expectations. We were just playing around with different ideas, having a good time, and somehow landed on this quirky approach that ended up becoming the final track.

EG: You mentioned the quirky break being like a robot stumbling into a carnival. How did you decide to add that unexpected twist? Was it planned or spontaneous?

Deer Jade: It was rather spontaneous, as when we came across that sample, we immediately fell in love and went ahead with it!

Sam Shure: To me, it actually felt like stepping into a 90s Hawaiian hula party during the break, with dancers in floral decor swaying around, and then suddenly, the beat drops back in and pulls you right onto the dance floor. It was definitely a spontaneous choice, and that playfulness just stuck.

EG: Was it your first experience working in the studio together?

Deer Jade: The first time we sat in the studio together was one day in early 2019, having fun just jamming. After COVID we were flatmates in Berlin for 2 years, so we spent a lot of time together. I learned so much just watching Sam produce all day long! We eventually decided to create something together, ‘Cybernetic Symphony’ is the result of that!

Sam Shure: Pretty much what Jade said – (laughter), yes!

EG: How did you guys first meet?

Deer Jade: In Amsterdam, as we were both just starting out and had good friends in common, Parallelle!

Sam Shure: Yes, we met through our mutual friends from TGOB back in 2018 or 2019 and became close over the years.

EG: What is the one thing that most impressed each of you about the other while collaborating?

Deer Jade: The incredible speed at which he works and his musicality. Sam is able to come up with incredible melodies almost instantly, and knows exactly how to design each sound so that they work well and sound loud on the dancefloor. A true hit machine and absolute genius artist!

Sam Shure: What really impressed me about Jade is her vision and precision when it comes to her sound. She knows exactly what she wants and has such a unique approach – one that aligns perfectly with both her personality and her artistic brand.

EG: The track fuses organic and electronic elements in a really cohesive way. What were some of the key instruments, sounds, or techniques used to achieve that balance?

Deer Jade: We used a great collection of synths as well as samples.

Sam Shure: In this case, the main elements came from sampling an old exotica record, combined with analog synths like the Buchla Easel and the Prophet-6, plus some digital layering to tie it all together.

EG: What does the track represent to each of you artistically?

Deer Jade: Freedom of expression and the playfulness of our inner child!

Sam Shure: For me, it’s about having fun, being playful, and not taking things too seriously all the time. We could’ve easily gone in a more polished, classy house direction, but it felt way better to follow the moment and not overthink it.

EG: How was it working with OJO and Bora Uzer on this release?

Deer Jade: Bora has been a dear friend and one of my absolute favorite artists for so many years that it’s the greatest pleasure to have the chance to release on his label and support the project! OJO truly feels like a family. Super grateful that he did an epic remix of the track too!

Sam Shure: Bora is like a big brother to me – someone I deeply admire and respect both musically and personally. He believes in me and gives me a lot of confidence in my art, which makes working with him feel incredibly natural. OJO has become a creative playground for me. It gives me the freedom to release music without waiting years, and the team behind it feels like family.

EG: Bora’s remix brings a different energy while staying true to the essence of the original. What was your first reaction when you heard it?

Deer Jade: Insane energy! Bora’s understanding of music and sound is simply out of this world. I also learned so much about production thanks to him! A master at his craft!

Sam Shure: I could immediately picture him performing it – jumping around with that wild stage energy of his, bringing those high vibes. He added his signature craziness that we all love him for.

EG: Lastly, now that ‘Cybernetic Symphony’ is out in the world, what’s next for each of you?

Deer Jade: I will have a remix for Rufus Du Sol coming out on June 6th, and an EP on Tau in July. Some great shows and festivals are coming up this summer, as well as birthing a ne,w incredibly exciting project. Stay tuned!

Sam Shure: My next release is a collaboration with Monolink, coming out on Cercle Records – I’m super hyped about that. Then there are two more EPs coming later this year, which I can’t talk about just yet, and some really exciting collaborations that I’m looking forward to sharing.
