From releases on labels such as Hot Creations, Fool’s Gold, Desolat, Origins, and Heist to the continued growth of his own Purveyor Underground imprint, Demuir has carved out a distinct voice that blends classic house influences with a modern production approach.

Now, the Canadian artist returns with new material via Priroslin Recordings, unveiling his latest two-track EP, ‘Mind Speaks’.

In this conversation, Demuir reflects on the inspiration behind the release, the importance of authenticity in today’s industry, and how artists can build meaningful connections with their audiences in an evolving musical landscape.

EG: Hi, Demuir! Welcome to EG. It’s a pleasure to have you here with us. How have you been doing?

Demuir: Thanks for having me. I have been great and recently returned from a two-week tour in New Zealand and Australia.

EG: First of all, congratulations on the release of your new two-tracker, ‘Mind Speaks’. You must be thrilled to be able to share this one. What has the initial reception been like so far?

Demuir: I am very happy to share these tracks with listeners and DJs. The reception has been strong, with early support from Laurent Garnier, DJ Sneak, Kristin Velvet, Oliver $, and Mark Farina, to name a few. It has been great to see.

EG: What can you tell your fans about this new drop? Is there a concept or emotional trigger driving these cuts?

Demuir: I developed these tracks a few years ago and shared the process with my Patreon community to show how I build ideas and refine them into finished music. ‘Grace and Wonder’ reflects my gratitude for the gift of music. Even if someone does not believe in a higher power, I think we can all appreciate how inspiration from everyday life can translate into sound.

EG: What made you think of Priroslin Recordings as the right home for this particular release? How did the connection come about

Demuir: Prisolin felt like the right home because I have known Prince for some time. When he invited me to be part of what he is building with the label, I was happy to contribute.

“I would like to see less artificial practices like buying streams or outsourcing creativity, and more recognition of genuine talent regardless of follower counts”

EG: Having been active for almost two decades… how do you manage to keep things fresh and interesting in the studio for yourself?

Demuir: Life itself keeps things fresh for me. I do not really believe in writer’s block. When you truly love what you do, inspiration tends to show up. I also enjoy learning new tools and ideas that help me improve my craft.

EG: Given your experience… how do you feel about the state of the scene at the moment? What would you like to see more and less of?

Demuir: The industry can be discouraging when you look at how streaming platforms have devalued music and pushed artists to compromise their values. At the same time, I see an opportunity. It allows me to focus on being authentic and letting the right audience find me. I would like to see fewer artificial practices like buying streams or outsourcing creativity, and more recognition of genuine talent regardless of follower counts.

EG: On to a broader subject… What would you like to accomplish as an artist this year? Is there something “tangible” that you’d like to go for?

Demuir: One goal this year is to double my Patreon membership. It represents connecting with people who choose to support my music, masterclasses, and sample packs directly. I will always make music, but I want it to live in spaces where it is understood and valued.

EG: What are some of the challenges artists will face in the near future? What advice would you give to your colleagues?

Demuir: The biggest challenge artists face is building their own platforms while major media channels push trends that are not centered on the music. Artificial intelligence will also play a role, but I see it as a tool rather than a replacement for creativity.

“When you truly love what you do, inspiration tends to show up”

EG: What’s next for Demuir? Where can your fans catch you next?

Demuir: On the music side, I recently finished remixes for Fred P, James Curd, and Josh Butler, while continuing work on original tracks for my Purveyor Underground digital label, Purveyor Underground Limited vinyl label, and ChiNorth. As for shows, I will be in Detroit with DJ Holographic in March, followed by San Diego and Toronto in April, along with additional dates in Chicago.

EG: Thank you so much for your time, Demuir! We wish you all the best in the future. Take care!

Demuir: Anytime. Thanks so much for having me!
