The largest personal collection on the web boasts a staggering 512,279 items.
Discogs has published a new report in which it reveals that it has already exceeded 500 million releases, a number reached due to the contribution of more than 3 million users who have shared their record collections with the renowned platform.
Three months ago, Discogs revealed that vinyl sales had increased by 40% in its marketplace during the past 2020, coinciding with the pandemic. And it is a sign that users have taken advantage of the time they have spent at home to update their music catalogs and at the same time, sharing that information with Discogs and the rest of its users and visitors.
Other curious facts revealed by Discogs are that 66% prefer the typical black vinyl instead of colored since it ‘is easier to find’ and ‘sounds better’; and that for users a limited edition must be one that has 1000 units or less. They have also shared the most collected albums for decades and among them, we find Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’, Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’, Daft Punk’s ‘Random Acess Memories’, and Amy Winehouse’s ‘Back to Black’.
In addition, Discogs has also described the profile of their ‘average’ user, and generally, it is one who has 184 items, valued at approximately £2,200 and organizes their collection alphabetically. By the way, the largest personal collection on the web is comprised of a mind-blowing 512,279 items.
