Ghetto house pioneer DJ Deeon has died

He was 56 years old.

The iconic DJ Deeon, recognized for being involved in the Chicago and Ghetto house movement, died on July 17th, 2023.

The news  was announced on his Facebook account with the following message: “I am sorry to announce the legendary Artist, Producer, DJ, Label owner, and my friend Deeon “DJ Deeon” Boyd gained his wings today.”

No cause of death has been revealed yet, but the artist had suffered from different health issues, including diabetes and pneumonia in recent times.

DJ Deeon had a notable musical career developing the Ghetto house sound in the early ’90s alongside the likes of DJ Funk, DJ Milton, and DJ Slugo. Some of his most memorable tracks were released on labels such as Dance Mania, Teklife, and Numbers, including ‘Freak Like Me,’ ‘WANNA GO BANG,’ ‘House-O-Matic,’ ‘Let Me Bang’ and ‘Ride This MF,’ and more.
