Ibiza, an island celebrated for its lively nightlife and music festivals, has found itself embroiled in a controversy. Famous DJ and producer, Diplo, is under investigation by local law enforcement for allegedly hosting an unauthorized party at the picturesque Cala d’Hort viewpoint. This spot, favored by social media influencers, holds ecological importance and is safeguarded by strict environmental laws.
Earlier this week, the authorities of the Balearic island began an inquiry into a purported “rave” that allegedly occurred on June 24th. Diplo, the US-based DJ, is said to have promoted the event on his social media platforms, sharing videos of exuberant crowds swaying to his impromptu performance.
The Saint Josep City Council, in collaboration with the police, is evaluating whether any laws were breached during this gathering. The local government has publicly voiced its disapproval of the event, underlining the environmental sensitivity of the location that offers a view of the small rocky island of es Vedrà.
The council emphasizes that the gathering’s location is part of the European Union’s Natura 2000 Network and is identified as a Natural Area of Special Interest. The event has sparked concerns about fire risks, noise pollution, littering, and potential safety hazards to attendees in the protected area.
Ocio de Ibiza, a local group representing hospitality and entertainment, issued a statement outlining its dedication to the well-being of the local population. It condemned such events, asserting that they have a detrimental effect on the island’s leisure sector.
