DJ Disciple and Henry Kronk recently released a new book titled ‘The Beat, The Scene, The Sound,’ which explores the rise, fall, and rebirth of house music in New York City. The book takes readers on a journey through the 80s and 90s, exploring the growth of the genre through the eyes of one of its central figures, DJ Disciple.
The publication includes interviews with legendary house DJs like Armand Van Helden, Todd Terry, Roger Sanchez, and Bobby Konders. Louie Vega of Masters At Work also contributed to the book by writing the prologue.
‘The Beat, The Scene, The Sound’ delves into the queer and black artists at the center of the growth of house music in New York. It explores how the closure of iconic venues like Paradise Garage, Studio 54, and Club Zanzibar impacted the local scene and how the music influenced others, particularly those in the UK who make UK garage.
