Simon Birkumshaw aka Simon Shaw was born in the south east of England UK. From a early age, he was very enthusiastic about music. At the age of 15 he played guitar in his first band. After playing guitar for several years he also started to learn to play the drums, having a very natural feel for rhythm & groove. With a open mind to music, there were very few genres that he had not taken an interest in. As he grew older his musical interests changed and eventually he started to listen to more electronic music. Turning 18 was a massive turning point as the sound the of 90’s House and UK Garage were of all the rage when growing up. So being heavily influence by artist such as The Prodigy, Daft Punk, Deadmau5, Masters At Work, Mark Knight, Carl Cox, Pete Tong, Marco Carola amongst many other pioneers of the House & Techno scene, Labels such as, Defected, Strictly Rhythm, Toolroom, Visionquest, and many more.
With his love for electronic dance music growing at a rapid rate Simon decided to get his first pair of decks, were he could learn the craft and feel like he could influence more people than just his friends with great music. Pushing upon this he then develop his skills and after months of practice, he got his break to play a local club night which he had been a avid supporter of. Working his way up from just a small dj to now running his own success club night in his home town of Southend On Sea (UK) playing in some of the most admired and legendary clubs in the UK as well as having international bookings across Europe.
The hard work never stops and Simon continues to push on now with his productions with each new track containing new elements and utilizing new production techniques. This all happening whilst running his own parties, pushing it to become one of the fastest growing and most respected brands in the South East. Things are certainly looking on the up for this passionate new comer. At the start of 2014 Simon landed himself a job working within the A&R department for the legendary record label Defected, were here Simon continues to learn his craft and the industry around him. Since then Simon as gone onto work with well established artist’’s within the music industry such as TONKiMONSTA, Jonas Blue, Roger Sanchez, Sam Divine, Kerri Chandler just to name a few.
Recently Simon has now been appointed the new role of Label Manger at Kerri Chandlers infamous Madhouse & Madtech imprints. With a positive glow shining from Simon Shaw’s camp right now this is certainly a name who will being hearing a lot more to come over the coming months. Simon had his first release on the known label Smiley Fingers, and after building relationships with friends ‘The Deepshakerz’ he had a release to kick start 2015 on their imprint Safe Music. Releases out on known labels such as the ore established Go Deeva Records and on newer label Lauter Unfug with remixes from underground artist such as Matchey & Bott & Timid Boy. There’s plenty more music in the pipeline including collabs from artist such as Dantiez Saunderson, Jhonsson and more. Not to mention a debut release on his own imprint and various of release’s coming up over the coming months. Things are really shaping up nicely for Simon Shaw’s career and he definitely one to keep your eye on.
