EG SPOTLIGHT.327 Julio Aguilar

For his debut on Electronic Groove, Aguilar looks toward the records that shaped his approach behind the decks. The mix draws from late 90s and early 2000s club culture, when percussion, groove, and tension guided long nights on the floor.

Selections like Planet Funk’s ‘Inside All the People” (Deep Dish Tata 80’s Dub)’ and Murk’s ‘Deep South ‘Tribal America’ (Oscar G Club Space Mix)’ establish the foundation early. From there, Aguilar moves through cult favorites such as Little Green Men’s ‘Need’ and Danny Tenaglia’s Quarter Flash Dub of ‘The Door,’ tracks that still carry real weight in underground rooms.

That reference point reflects Aguilar’s own musical direction. His productions sit between progressive house, minimal, and deep tech, driven by percussion and warm forward motion rather than quick peaks. Releases on Little Helpers and ExtraSketch follow the same idea: music built for dancers while leaving space for atmosphere.

Across the session, Aguilar connects eras and moods without losing sight of the dancefloor. From the hypnotic drive of Halo Varga, Hipp e & Tony’s ‘Primitive’ to the uplifting spirit of ‘Twenty Minutes of Disco Glory (Simon’s Come Unity Mix),’ the mix moves through classic territory with clarity and purpose.

With this debut on EG Spotlight, Julio Aguilar introduces a sound that respects progressive house history while keeping the focus firmly on the floor.
