We pay this tribute to a highly underrated legend of the techno genre who recently passed away. Rino Cerrone, along with Gaetano Parisio, Marco Carola, and Danilo Vigorito, were part of a fundamental and impressive wave of techno that came out of Naples (IT) between the late 90s and the early 2000s. Maybe at that time, the genre did not have the massive global attention it has today. But living legends such as Richie Hawtin, Carl Cox, and Jeff Mills, just to name a few, along with almost every techno DJ in the globe back then, played not one but multiple of their productions for years and till today.
He managed to create a personal and characteristic sound within a quite particular style of techno, such as the Neapolitan sound from the 2000’s. Funky and groovy but simultaneously mental and hypnotizing, timeless works that subtly oscillated between the faster and stronger techno or the more profound and darker side of house. Feats that very few producers in the history of the scene have managed to do, and he did it most flawlessly.
We believed (for years) that artists like him deserve much more recognition and that all current and future generations should have the joy of knowing his works.
Long live Rino!
