‘Lots of old and new bits in here! Some unreleased stuff by me + some of my favorite grooves.’ – Azzecca
Since her debut release in 2022, Azzecca has made a name for herself as somewhat of a musical enigma. Her sound is psychedelic but rolling; it’s dark but euphoric; it’s emotionally resonant but always with a cheeky twist. As a Chicago-native, she’s grown up around the foundational impact of house music, and found a way to incorporate touches of her early musical influences – the psychedelia of Pink Floyd, or the rich textures of early 90s UK trip-hop like Massive Attack and Portishead, to create something fresh and genre-bending.
This ethos also lends itself to her DJ sets, which have graced the soundsystems of massive festival stages like Lollapalooza, Movement, and Coachella, to legendary clubs like Watergate (Berlin) and Warehouse Project. ‘My sound is always dark and sexy, but I experiment with different genres and vibes. My sets are dynamic, I love to surprise the crowd.”
Her production process follows a similar path to her dj sets with a clear intention of reaching into different corners of dance music. “I start my own tracks by finding a bassline, lead, or a vocal sample that speaks to me and sort-of go from there, I love to use funky arps and to structure my tracks in surprising ways. My diverse musical tastes give me extreme versatility as a DJ/producer, resulting from early influences like the harsh but emotional elements of electro rock.’
The drive to forge her own path is what led her to launching her party series COSIMEA, and more recently her label imprint of the same name. The brand’s tagline, “an exploration of other-worldly club sounds,” is both a play on Azzecca’s obsession with extraterrestrials and a guideline for artists playing her parties to get creative and explore more sonically diverse sets than they’d play for more commercial-leaning crowds. For the label, it’s a place for her sound to evolve outside the bounds of other label constraints, and eventually to platform emerging underground acts who are looking for a home to hone in their own creative freedom.
EG.1055 marks her first appearance on the Electronic Groove podcast, capturing an artist whose path has been built patiently, from local floors to global recognition, with the dance floor always as the final reference point.
