EG.1059 Curses

CURSES’ new release  ‘Trust The Beat’ is now available via  Wrong Era. Stream and download here.

“Lights out, strobe chaos, full fog and hazy renegade raver energy on this mix. I went digging into old Valencia, Dutch, and Belgian club gems from the late 80s and early 90s, alongside new and upcoming acid house and proto techno from Next Wave Acid Punx, Altered Circuits, Non Stop Rhythm, and Wrong Era, including my latest release for them, ‘Trust The Beat.’ Enjoy.” – Curses

For his second mix on the Electronic Groove Podcast, episode EG.1059, Curses steps in with intent. This is not a safe introduction. It is a statement.

The mix moves through late 80s and early 90s European club culture, pulling from Valencia, Dutch, and Belgian archives, then locking into present day acid house and proto techno pressure. It is foggy, raw, and direct. No nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake. Just continuity. Past and present sharing the same room.

That tension has always defined Curses. Based in Berlin, he builds from New Wave, Italo disco, post punk, and body music, shaping DJ sets and live performances that feel cinematic but physical. There is always a sense of character. A voice. A mood.

His latest album, Another Heaven, released on Italians Do It Better and co produced by Johnny Jewel, sharpened that identity even further. He has also collaborated with Âme on Innervisions for “Shadow of Love,” bringing his darker romantic tone into contemporary club music. Releases on Oráculo, Bordello a Parigi, Running Back, Wrong Era, and Dischi underline his range, but EG.1059 narrows the lens. This is him in the booth, focused.

The inclusion of his own project Tutto Vetro, with “Trust The Beat” and “Wild Things,” ties the mix back to his current output and to the Next Wave Acid Punx universe he curates. That project, both party and vinyl series, has built a loyal following and earned repeated support from BBC Radio 6. It is not branding. It is community.

On EG.1059, Curses does not just showcase influences. He maps a lineage. From Enigma to Kim Wilde, from underground Belgian cuts to fresh acid releases, the thread is clear. Romance, grit, and forward motion.

Electronic Groove continues to open space for artists who respect history but play for now. Curses fits that philosophy. This debut captures him at full intensity.
