Sónar Istanbul is getting closer and the excitement is increasing. Ahead of the special weekend, we have selected some of the acts we are going to check in this edition of the festival.

As usual, the Sónar team looks forward to promoting electronic music and digital creativity in the region they visit. In this case, the Istanbul experience began in 2017 as an extension of Barcelona’s original location, becoming a prominent event bringing together international and local artists, as well as music and technology enthusiasts from all over the world.

For this year’s edition, the festival has an eclectic line-up including some techno stalwarts such as Drumcode founder Adam Beyer, BPitch Control’s own Ellen Allien will perform with Turkish and Berlin-based DJ and producer Nene H, also Marcel Dettmann, Berghain resident and Ostgut Ton member will be part of the bill.

Adding more names to our list we find more minimalist and experimental sounds from Sevdaliza. Also, the swirling drones of celebrated avant-garde composer William Basinski, and the vibrant audiovisual spectacle ‘Ultratronics’ by Japanese glitch master Ryoji Ikeda. An interesting fact is one of the reasons why Ikeda does not grant interviews is to promote the genuine interpretation of his work by the audience. That is, he does not want to explain his work so as not to influence it. We think it is a very honest gesture that demonstrates the high consideration and respect he has for his audience.

Another highlight will be the set by 2manydjs and Tiga, absolutely perfect for dancing and sweating. Jan Blomqvist caught our attention, who cannot be defined as a DJ. He is a musician, singer, and producer who performs his own electronic compositions live with previous acclaimed shows in events such as Coachella and Burning Man.

Atakan Uysal is another essential performance we’ll check.  Completing the line-up are DJ sets from the innovative British house and garage star, Eliza Rose; radical producer Olof Dreijer, known for his work as one half of The Knife; Hamburg electro shaker DJ Mell G; and masked deep house selector Hyenah.

Accompanying all the performances mentioned above Sónar+D program, a platform for collaboration, experimentation, and the exploration of the latest trends in digital culture, will bring additional performances, conferences, and installations.
