Everything But The Girl have released a new best-of compilation titled ‘The Best of Everything But the Girl’. Out now via Buzzin’ Fly and Chrysalis, the 16-track album celebrates over four decades of music from the duo formed by Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn.
Spanning from their 1982 debut ‘Night and Day’ to 2023’s UK Top 3 album ‘Fuse’, the compilation captures the evolution of the bestselling pair’s sound — from early indie jazz-folk to modern electronica. It includes the global hit ‘Missing (Todd Terry Remix)’, as well as charting singles ‘I Don’t Want To Talk About It’, ‘Walking Wounded’, and ‘Each and Every One’, alongside deep catalogue selections from their pioneering output.
“We always liked albums that had a fast side and a slow side, so we thought we’d start with the bangers and wind down with the ballads,” said Thorn of the sequencing. Watt added, “It also makes the album run backwards in time. It gives you a sense of clubland back to bedsit, a journey that to us feels very real. And at the end, we pair the modern-day (‘Run a Red Light’) with how we started (‘Night and Day’).”
Mastered by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios, the release is pressed on double vinyl for enhanced audio quality, housed in a gatefold sleeve, and includes a booklet with full lyrics and credits. A CD edition is also available, featuring a 16-page booklet.
