Ex-Robot Heart resident to compete in Winter Olympics

Benjamin Alexander gave up the decks in 2018.

Former DJ and Robot Hart’s Burning Man resident, Benjamin Alexander, will be representing Jamaica during this year’s Beijing Winter Olympics.

Alexander picked up the sport back in 2016 and decided to hang up his decks in 2018 to further concentrate on skiing. Come the Winter Olympics, and Alexander will be the first person ever to represent Jamaica in alpine skiing.

‘The biggest emotion I have right now is relief. I have put my entire life into this, my savings, my reputation, absolutely everything. It’s taken 200% of my all to get here.’ Alexander said to Sky News.

‘I took on this project as a full endeavor in March 2020,’ he said. ‘So a big part of my fight and struggle has been against the pandemic – not being able to get into the southern hemisphere to train during their winter and losing months and months of competitions due to them being canceled’.

Alexander has never lived in Jamaica before, although the 38-year-old was born in England but has a Jamaican father, which enables him to participate and represent the Jamaican national team.

When asked if ‘Cool Runnings’ had influenced him, Alexander said: ‘Had it not been for that movie and my friends making jokes about me being like ‘Cool Runnings’ I don’t think this plan would have been concocted.’
