fabric has partnered with British artist Mark Vessey to create a visual tribute to their influential CD mix series. This collaboration celebrates 25 years of electronic music innovation and cultural impact.
Using medium and large-format photography, Vessey chronicles fabric’s iconic CD releases as cultural artifacts, capturing their distinctive tin cases in chronological order. The artwork will be available as a timed release from November 29th until midnight on December 2nd.
Reflecting on this unique project, the artist shares his perspective: “Being able to document the physical mix series for such a world-renowned club and label is an honour. I hope to immortalize and distill the impact of their physical release series within my art, so much that it will be there to view on display in the club for future generations of clubbers to see.”
The project aligns with fabric’s 25th-anniversary celebrations, featuring a global tour, special releases, and a commemorative book. The compilations showcased electronic music’s finest talents, including Ricardo Villalobos, Four Tet, Daniel Avery, and James Murphy. Both series concluded with their 100th editions in October 2018, marking the end of an era in electronic music curation.
fabric Co-Founder Cameron Leslie emphasizes the club’s cultural significance: “fabric has always been about culture—music culture, club culture, youth culture and art. The venue has always strived to be forward-thinking and innovative on all levels, not just its music offering. The artwork for our flyers across 25 years has always been progressive, as has the artwork for our mix series. It makes sense that the physical CD compilations of fabric are documented and celebrated. We are thrilled to work with UK artist Mark Vessey, who will immortalize the collection for all to see.”
