Stockholm’s enigmatic collective, Floormagnet, returns with the release of ‘Magnetique,’ now available via Maelstrom Records/NewState Music.
‘Magnetique’ exemplifies Floormagnet’s distinct sound, merging electric chocalhos to form an intricate digital landscape. Ethereal synth walls envelop the listener as a compelling character voice declares, “I’m in the space / You feel the same,” setting the track’s tone. The band creates a melodic retro-futuristic world, seamlessly blending trumpets, 303 basslines, driving bass synths, and ARPs.
Reflecting on the creative process, Floormagnet shared, “Instantly when the melody came in place, we all truly felt this deep connection to our big inspiration Jean Michel Jarre and his late 70s sound. The vocals and other layers, like the beautiful trumpet, blended perfectly into the soundscape as it evolved. From there, we set the driving structure. Everything tied together with the bass, ARPs, 303, melodies and the rhythms. ‘Magnetique’ was finally crowned with an evocative vocal, “I’m in the space / You feel the same”, inviting you on an uplifting & rhythmic journey.”
This secretive Swedish sextet spans a range of genres, bonded by a mutual admiration for late 70s synth music pioneers such as Kraftwerk and Jean-Michel Jarre. Their influences also include 80s acts like Human League and Yazoo, as well as 90s groups like KLF and labels such as Guerilla, UMM, Limbo, Hooj Choons, Deconstruction, and Renaissance.
