‘Yasuke’ is based on the real-life story of the first African samurai.
Electronic artist Flying Lotus has unveiled his latest musical project, his contribution to the soundtrack for the forthcoming anime series ‘Yasuke’.
The show is produced by Nextflix, which shared teaser images yesterday. The story is centered around the real-world life of the first African samurai warrior, and was created by LeSean Thomas (Black Dynamite, The Boondocks); it was animated by MAPPA (Jujutsu Kaisen), and the main character is voiced by Lakeith Stanfield (Atlanta, Get Out), while Steven Ellison (Flying Lotus) took over the original music score.
‘There is a serendipitous nature about this project, how an African-American man goes to Japan to live and work amongst the very best in Japanese anime to create an anime about an African who goes to Japan to live amongst the Japanese elite and become a warrior. Part of me deep down feels I was meant to create this adventure series with MAPPA, Flying Lotus, LaKeith, and the rest of this talented team’, said LeSean Thomas about ‘Yasuke’.
Flying Lotus announced the news and shared images from ‘Yasuke’ on Twitter. Check out some of the images below.
