In a landmark move, French clubs will now be acknowledged as cultural actors according to new legislation.

The announcement was made by Rachida Dati, the Minister of Culture, on April 2nd, 2024. In her statement, Dati emphasized the importance of recognizing clubs and discotheques as crucial contributors to popular culture. She believes that this new status will enhance the operational conditions of these establishments.

This legislation is the result of persistent lobbying efforts from various groups, including Culture Nuit. This union, which represents a range of cultural and musical nightlife venues including Le Badaboum, Rex Club, and Point Ephémère, has been advocating for this change for years.

Before the public announcement, representatives from Culture Nuit had a meeting with Dati. The group expressed gratitude for the Minister’s commitment and is looking forward to future collaborations.
