Legendary Detroit DJ Delano Smith was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2022, and now a Go Fund Me page has been set up to assist with the medical treatment. Despite the tumor being removed and further treatments of chemotherapy and radiation, efforts have been unsuccessful.

The page was set up by Smith’s friends and family, and is seeking to raise $250,000 that will go towards medical expenses that are not covered by his insurance.

“In February 2022, Delano Smith’s doctors discovered a golf ball-sized metastatic cancer tumor growing in front of his heart,” can be read on the GoFundMe page, which goes on to explain that “the cancer had spread to his lower back and diagnosed it as Thymic Carcinoma, a very rare form of unpredictable cancer that is difficult to contain and treat. He was sent back for more chemotherapy and radiation.”

According to the campaign, the funds raised will go toward all of the medications that Smith is currently taking, as well as “experimental treatment methods” because his insurance won’t cover any out-of-network treatment.
