Gorillaz have released their new single ‘The God of Lying’ featuring IDLES, the latest preview of their forthcoming ninth studio album, ‘The Mountain’. The track is available now alongside an official visualizer.
Written by Damon Albarn and Joe Talbot, ‘The God of Lying’ blends dub influences with Talbot’s unmistakable delivery, offering a stark reflection on doubt, questioning, and modern unrest. Recorded in London, Devon, and Mumbai, the track features Ajay Prasanna on bansuri and percussion by Viraj Acharya.
Set for release in 2026, ‘The Mountain’ features 15 tracks and a cast of international collaborators including Ajay Prasanna, Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash, Anoushka Shankar, Asha Bhosle, Asha Puthli, Bizarrap, Black Thought, Gruff Rhys, IDLES, Jalen Ngonda, Johnny Marr, Kara Jackson, Omar Souleyman, Paul Simonon, Sparks, Trueno, and Yasiin Bey.
The album also features the voices of the late Bobby Womack, Dave Jolicoeur, Dennis Hopper, Mark E. Smith, Proof, and Tony Allen. Exploring themes of mortality and transformation, the record is described as “a playlist for a party on the border between this world and whatever happens next.”
Coinciding with the release, the band announced The Mountain Tour, which begins March 20, 2026, in Manchester. The tour includes arena stops across the UK and Ireland, a headline show at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on June 20 with Sparks and Trueno, and festival appearances across Europe, including Primavera Sound, Roskilde, and Way Out West.
