Honey Dijon curated a jukebox installation at the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center in Manhattan, marking the 55th anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion, a key event in LGBTQIA+ history that sparked the Pride movement.

The exhibit features a recreation of the original jukebox and the music from the iconic Stonewall Inn on June 28, 1969. Dijon selected tracks like Sam Cooke’s ‘A Change is Gonna Come’ and Marvin Gaye’s ‘I Heard It Through the Grapevine,’ the latter remembered by Stonewall figurehead Marsha P. Johnson during the police raid.

This exhibit highlights the resilience and unity of the queer community during the Stonewall Rebellion, capturing their struggles and triumphs through music. Dijon remarked, “We visually know what it looks like, but what did it sound like? What was the soundtrack to these people’s lives? I hope the visitors discover what liberation sounds like.”

Located at the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center, entry is free. More details are available here.
