Weirdcore to commision Houghton Festival’s The Warehouse stage

The commission is a result of Houghton’s ongoing partnership with  d&b audiotechnik.

Houghton Festival, well-known for its innovative celebration of music, art, and food, is teaming up with audio tech company d&b.

The event that is set to take place at Houghton Hall from August 10th to 14th,  is introducing d&b Soundscape to The Warehouse stage, creating a surreal audio-visual environment. The attendants will be treated to an immersive, multidimensional sonic experience curated by a lineup of notable DJs and artists including DJ Nobu and Donato Dozzy. The Warehouse stage will also showcase a new commission by visual artist Weirdcore, renowned for his mind-bending work.

Weirdcore’s latest commission will reflect a fragmented, fractal version of the room where the audience is located, with both the real room and mirrored room lights animated to the music. The result is an experience that feels like a cross between a Weirdcore version of “Through the Looking Glass”, and the 1982 supernatural horror movie ‘Poltergeist’. This application of technology to an immersive experience builds on themes explored during Weirdcore’s collaborations with his most frequent collaborator, Aphex Twin. The artist has created works for Arca, Yaeji, Overmono, The Caretaker, Radiohead, Tame Impala, M.I.A., Miley Cyrus, and others.

Houghton Festival has been partnering with d&b since 2017 to provide the best environmental audio for a green site festival. The event announced its expertly curated musical lineup for the highly anticipated 2023 edition earlier this year, with everything from the mixers to the artists curated by  Craig Richards.
