United States travelers may soon be able to fly directly to Ibiza, according to a report from Diario de Ibiza. Juan Miguel Costa, the island’s Director of Tourism, shared that discussions to secure at least one weekly direct flight from the US will take center stage at the upcoming Routes Europe aviation event in April.
Ibizan tourism authorities plan to meet with major carriers such as Delta and American Airlines to explore the feasibility of launching direct connections. While the exact departure cities have not been confirmed, New York, Miami, and Atlanta are being considered as potential starting points.
Currently, most visitors from North America reach Ibiza via connecting flights through European hubs. A direct route could offer convenience and further stimulate the island’s thriving tourism sector. Data from 2023 indicated that American tourists spent an average of US$ 2,184 per trip to Spain, outspending other nationalities.
The success of the New York to Palma de Mallorca route is seen as a positive reference, having significantly increased tourism on Ibiza’s neighboring island.
