Ibiza Rocks has suspended its music events following the deaths of two British guests this month. The announcement came on Monday, July 21st, hours after 19-year-old Gary Kelly, a professional ice hockey player for Dundee Stars, died after a fall at the venue.
Earlier this month, 26-year-old Evan Thomson also died after a fall on July 7th. In a statement, Ibiza Rocks said: “We are deeply shocked and devastated… Our priority is to support those affected and their loved ones… and to fully assist the authorities with their investigations.” The venue added that it was pausing events “given the seriousness of the situation.”
No events are listed between July 21st and 25th, though the next scheduled party is still listed for July 26th. The venue has not confirmed whether further cancellations will follow, and no notice has been posted to its website.
Friends of Thomson have publicly criticized the hotel’s response and medical delays, with some describing the area being cleaned less than two hours after his death. Ibiza Rocks did not cancel events following the July 7th incident.
Two additional deaths occurred at the venue earlier this season, including a balcony fall in April and a separate case involving a pre-existing heart condition.
