Insomniac has launched Speaker Freaker, a new imprint focused on rave-inspired sounds, with its first release arriving from a trio of breakbeat pioneers. Under the joint alias King of the Beats, Plump DJs, Krafty Kuts, and Freestylers have delivered the label’s debut single, ‘Nighthawk’, now available across platforms.
Fusing chopped drums, warped synths, and vocal stabs, ‘Nighthawk’ channels the energy of ‘90s rave culture while staying wired to today’s underground pulse. Driven by a low-end-heavy groove and built for dark dance floors, the track embodies the legacy and evolution of its creators.
King of the Beats features three breakbeat veterans: Krafty Kuts (the “King of Breaks”), who’s released on OWSLA and shared stages with The Prodigy; Plump DJs, founders of Finger Lickin’ Records known for cross-genre sets; and Freestylers, with chart success and film syncs including ‘Zoolander’.
Speaker Freaker is a new label blending breakbeat, jungle, gabber, hardcore, and techno. It honors rave history while showcasing emerging talent, aiming to connect generations in underground dance music.
