Andrea Rubolini is a DJ and producer with a career spanning over 15 years. Hailing from a small town in the province of Perugia, he is surely making a name for himself in the Electronic dance music scene with his unique sound, which fuses elements of disco music with a tech house beat.
In this interview, Andrea Rubolini talks about his background, his passion for music, his biggest musical influences, his most significant achievements to date, and what he hopes to achieve in the coming years.
EG: Hello Andrea, welcome to EG! How are you?
Andrea Rubolini: Hi, I’m doing great. This is a very productive period for me work-wise, I’m finishing up several production projects and I’m in a good mood.
EG: Can you tell us more about yourself? Where are you from, what do you do?
Andrea Rubolini: I’m Andrea Rubolini, and I’ve been a DJ and producer for 15 years. I come from a small town in the province of Perugia. I have a record label called Finish Team Records, founded in 2010 with my partner, Manu P.
EG: How were you first introduced to music? How did you know this is what you wanted to do?
Andrea Rubolini: At the age of 12, I got into music by buying a classical guitar. After years of playing guitar, my passion shifted toward disco music. I realized that this was what I wanted to do when I started producing my own music. Then I went on to buy my first turntables and vinyl records, and my love for music was ignited from there.
EG: Who would you say are your biggest musical influences?
Andrea Rubolini: My strongest musical influences are all the disco music pioneers from the 70s and 80s and Italian songwriter Lucio Battisti.
“After years of playing guitar, my passion shifted toward disco music. I realized that this was what I wanted to do when I started producing my own music”
EG: How would you describe your sound to someone who hasn’t heard your music yet?
Andrea Rubolini: My sound has a strong emphasis on disco music, so it has a deep and sometimes funky groove, enriched by a tech house beat that’s nicely sustained.
EG: If someone wants to start listening to your music, which track should they listen to first?
Andrea Rubolini: Definitely for my current genre, the latest releases, such as the ‘I Just Wanna Dance’ EP, but also my latest single on Happy Techno entitled ‘Penni Beleh’.
EG: What would you say is your biggest achievement so far?
Andrea Rubolini: So far, I can say it’s ‘Randy Athos’, a track played by Sharam of Deep Dish and has received great rankings on various house music websites. Also, ‘Around You’, which was released on Idriss D’s label and was supported and played by one of my favorite DJs, Ricardo Villalobos.
EG: Where would you love to perform in the near future?
Andrea Rubolini: Honestly, I’m intrigued by the American clubbing culture and lifestyle, so hopefully, I can satisfy this curiosity soon.
“I hope to get to a point where I can perform my DJ sets only using vinyl, as some really interesting stuff is being released lately”
EG: Can you tell us a fun fact about yourself?
Andrea Rubolini: I’m a perfectionist. Sometimes, I spend weeks perfecting my production work, just changing effects and trying out new sounds. It’s a strange fact that sometimes makes me feel annoying to myself.
EG: What’s next for Andrea Rubolini?
Andrea Rubolini: I have many new productions in the pipeline, some already in negotiation, all of which I’m very happy about. So, the goal is to reach the top of the charts in my genre and to get support from big artists. As for DJing, I hope to get to a point where I can perform my DJ sets only using vinyl, as some really interesting stuff is being released lately.
