Bedouin is an American-based music production and DJ partnership consisting of Tamer Malki and Rami Abousabe. Together they share a broad sonic vision that pulls from their diverse influences owing to their Middle Eastern heritage, Western upbringing, and worldly travels. As musicians, singers, songwriters, and multi-instrumentalists, they’ve pioneered a distinctive and timeless sound that has connected with crowds from all corners of the world. Their sophisticated productions are featured on some of the world’s most notable labels such as Crosstown Rebels, Get Physical, All Day I Dream, and recently their own imprint – Human By Default. Select major label releases include remixes for Black Coffee and Virgil Abloh on Ultra and Sony/Universal.

As Bedouin gears up for their new Ibiza residency at Pacha, we caught up with the duo to learn more about the upcoming club nights, their performance for Cercle, their Human By Default label, and more.

EG: Hello guys! It’s an absolute pleasure to have you here with us today. How have you been? Where are you right now?

Bedouin: Thanks for having us, we’re packing to go to Ibiza for the summer actually, as we speak 🙂

EG: Congratulations on your upcoming Pacha residency! You must be very excited. How long has this been in the works?

Bedouin: Before COVID, it was supposed to kick off in 2020, then everything went upside down…2 years later, here we are one week away from the big night!

EG: What can your fan expect to find from these nights? How will it differentiate itself from other events?

Bedouin: Our goal is to evolve on what we started with our ‘Saga’ Ibiza residency in 2017. Make it bigger and better…expand and supercharge the collective experience musically. Think of it as ‘Saga 2.0’.

EG: Speaking about standout events…You’re fresh off from your live performance for Cercle at The Great Treasury of Petra. It must have been a unique experience…

Bedouin: It was surreal indeed. Still buzzing from that whole experience…It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and honor to perform our music in one of the most unique locations in the world. One of the modern Seven World Wonders, Al-Khazneh in Petra, Jordan.

” (Human By Default) It’s exactly where we want it to be with big plans brewing for it…We’ve managed to gather a great group of amazing talents to be a part of the label”

EG: In which ways did you push yourself for the performance? Were you under pressure at the moment, or did the realization of what had been accomplished come later?

Bedouin: Usually most of the pushing takes place in the studio. From making new music to remixing, editing, and researching for new or old material…it’s never-ending and one of the most exciting parts of doing this whole thing.

EG: What about Coachella? How did your performance go? Did you get to see any interesting acts that caught your attention?

Bedouin: It’s always fun at Coachella. California is such a beautiful place for festivals, and this one specifically gathers artists from all genres and walks of life, so you get the chance to see different performances across the board that you don’t usually get to see…It was our 3rd time playing Coachella this year and we can’t wait for the next one.

EG: Also, your Human By Default label has been running for two years now. Where is the imprint now?

Bedouin: It’s exactly where we want it to be with big plans brewing for it…We’ve managed to gather a great group of amazing talents to be a part of the label. It has been a pleasure building these relationships and seeing the label grow. We’ve been firing some future music all around… And we plan to keep this going with some fresh music coming this summer.

EG: What has the journey been like for Human By Default? What have you learned from running your own imprint?

Bedouin: Patience is important, and sticking with what we believe in musically. No compromises when it comes to music.

“As for another highlight…it will be the release of our full debut album, which has been 7 years in the making”

EG: What’s next for Bedouin in the next few months? What new milestones are you looking to celebrate?

Bedouin: Pacha in Ibiza every Wednesday night starting next week through the first week of October and Scorpios in Mykonos every Tuesday night starting at the end of June through the end of August…2 residencies this summer that we’re very excited to have. As for another highlight…it will be the release of our full debut album, which has been 7 years in the making.

EG: Thank you for your time, guys! We wish you all the best for the future!

Bedouin: Thank you and hope to see you on the Island!
