BLVCKR: “I always try to learn from the best, that’s the only way to make good music”

BLVCKR is a talented DJ/producer, with a passion for funky, house and progressive grooves. He is already making a name for himself producing huge vocal house tracks while being inspired & experimenting with tech house, soul and electro sounds. Hailing from Galicia in Spain, he made his debut in Eden Ibiza in 2018, one of the White Isle’s most prestigious clubs, doing a  fantastic warm-up for Judge Jules to much hype and acclaim.

His dedication and love for music are evident in his hard work in the studio. To finish the year, BLVCKR will release ‘Be The One’ on Love & Other. About to launch his own weekly radio show, 2020 looks set to be the year cements himself as a name to watch in the global house music scene.

We had the chance to talk with BLVCKR about his new single ‘Be The One’ and other musical topics.

Electronic Groove: Hi BLVCKR, thanks for your time today. Tell us a bit about your musical background and how you did you ended producing music and DJing?

BLVCKR: Hello EG family, it’s a pleasure to be here with you. First of all, I started as a DJ and then I jumped into the producing world. It’s a funny story because I started djing in a local pub, but I’d never seen a mixer or vinyl/CDJ before! At this time I worked as a waiter and they asked me if I could play all night long and that’s how I started aged 18. The following year, a friend shows me music production software and I completely fell in love with how it worked. After that, I started learning more in college and that was the most important thing. I always try to learn from the best, that’s the only way to make good music and produce the best sound quality possible.

EG: You just released ‘Be The One’ via Love & Other. What was the inspiration to produce this track?

BLVCKR: ‘Be The One’ is a classic piano house cut full of energy. The energy and inspiration comes from the region where I live, Galicia, and from Ibiza which is my second home after only 2 years playing there. Both have a lot of in common, the nature, the energy, the love, the ocean…, and all of this I try to put it into the thing that I like most; making music for the dance floor.

EG: What about the creative process. Have you ever reached a creative block? Do you have any techniques to keep the music flowing?

BLVCKR: Everybody has some blocks when they are producing music and I have them too. The best way if it’s happening is to disconnect from the studio a couple of hours and then start again.

EG: Also, you recently had two different tracks ‘Back’ and ‘From Another Planet’ listed on the Beatport Charts. How do you feel about this special moment?

BLVCKR: The first time I entered the Beatport Chart was a fantastic surprise, full of emotion. It was with ‘Gonna Feel Alright’ and the top position was #18, that was incredible, to be honest. This year I released 8 tracks and 5 of them entered into the Top 100 charts. Every time that a track charts it’s still a surprise like the first time. Its a reward for all the hard work in the studio and all the team behind me, they are the best.

EG: Any other release coming soon? Can you share a sneak peek with our readers?
BLVCKR: Of course, there’s a lot of music to come in 2020. I can say to you that I have 2 features that the fans will be surprised about, one with Leanne Brown and the other one with SJ Johnson. I hope that you will also like those! The next release is on January 6th with my Colombian friend Ivan Miranda, coming out on Leandro Da Silva’s label Black Lizard Records. That’s all I’ll say, for now, all the rest you can check it on my social media.

EG: What is you relation with Ibiza? When was the first time you visited the island?

BLVCKR: Ibiza is a paradise. Its color, atmosphere, venues, and magic. My first visit was in 2018 and the minute I stepped off the plane the island caught me, but the place is not only for the summer and to play at the clubs. In Winter, Ibiza is magical too; every opportunity I get I go to relax and disconnect. It brings back a lot of memories, like my debut at Eden. I had a lot of responsibility playing the warm-up for a legend like Judge Jules and everything went well, I was happy that I received great feedback from the crowd, promoter, and owners of the club. It’s something that I will never forget.

EG: Tell us about your radio show ‘PURE BLVCK’. What’s the program concept?

BLVCKR: ‘PURE BLVCK’ is my monthly radio show where I play and present the tracks that touch me. When I make the show it’s like “Okay, I now have a couple of hours to enjoy the music”. For me it’s not a job, it’s my hobby where the listeners can get to know me a little bit more and listen to how my week or month was. It’s very emotional. I just started now on Data Transmission and there you can find some guest mixes with my industry mates. On this month’s show I invited my greek friend Agent Greg.

EG: Where are you spending New Year’s Eve?

BLVCKR:  I will spend New Year’s Eve in Galicia, with my family. I prefer to start the year with my nearest & dearest, and obviously I will play in my hometown.

EG: What was your favorite track of 2019?

BLVCKR: For me, the track of 2019 is ‘SOL’ from KC LIGHTS. I love it so much, it’s so full of energy. I don’t know anyone who dislikes this track, it’s just perfect.
