Born as a label, fed as a party, grown as a collective and cured as an artist. The history of Depaart is not common. It first became a reality first as a label in 2012. Created by Georgeous and Moliner, it was after ‘Easy Kid’ and Fran Zaragoza’s first releases two years later when they all became the core of the crew and brought Depaart to a further stage. In 2014 they started to host label nights across Madrid and Spain where only they played and focused on releasing exclusively their own music.
Guille and Fran started to play together in 2009, and from 2012 they’ve remixed each other and released music combined. Between the two of them, they’ve released more than 60 tracks and played more than 200 gigs. After sharing parties, sets, live acts, studio hours, rehearsals, and life, now they finally share a musical identity. This new era of Depaart kicks off in 2018 with ‘Blowing Smoke’, a first full EP at Sasha’s Last Night On Earth, and ‘Los Chicos Del Ruido’ released by Stil Vor Talent.
Electronic Groove: Hi, Depaart, thanks for your time today and for the podcast. Tell us, what was the mix’s inspiration?
Depaart: Thanks for having us! We wanted to make something easy to listen to but that would have our regular DJ set’s DNA, some of our own productions and tracks that we like too. It’s a bit slower than we’d usually play but we thought it could work for a podcast.
EG: Indeed! So you guys recently played at Ponton Amsterdam during Last Night On Earth’s showcase alongside Sasha, Fur Coat, and Colyn. How was the night?
Depaart: One for the books! It’s a really nice club in a unique environment. Not to mention an amazing event organization from the Last Night On Earth crew. It was packed from the beginning and the energy just kept going up. Shout-out to Colyn’s for his set and to Maren for the love!
EG: One of the highlights of the year was releasing ‘Blowing Smoke’ on Sasha’s label Last Night on Earth. What has this EP meant to you two?
Depaart: It was hard to believe at the beginning. Releasing on Last Night On Earth meant a huge push to our career in many different ways. We’ve met and worked with amazing professionals thanks to that release and managed to reach a lot further with our music.
EG: Also, you released on Sincopat and Stil Vor Talent. Are you happy with this year’s results?
Depaart: For sure, the best year by far! Stil Vor Talent was an early release too and we loved it, but Sincopat’s was a special one because Lauer signed up for a remix and Tom Trago participated in one of the tracks.
“That release meant a huge push to our career in many different ways”
EG: Release wise, what else is planned in the coming months?
Depaart: Santa is bringing a very special one this Xmas with our second Last Night On Earth release. It will be out on Christmas day with 3 originals tracks and a killer remix by Kiwi. We’re really looking forward to this one! We’re also participating in the re-launching of our label Depaart (yes, the same name, it’s how it actually all started).
EG: Very nice. What are your plans for the winter season?
Depaart: We will be finishing new projects that we have in the oven, as well as working on our live set and playing a bit around. We have confirmed dates in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Mauritius, Ibiza, Madrid, and Berlin, so we’re really looking forward to it.
EG: Where are you spending New Year’s Eve?
Depaart: We will be in Ibiza with good friends for what promises to be a very good dinner (In Spain we eat 12 grapes at midnight) and we will be playing a late-night set at Heart. We might check out DC-10 afterwards, just to make sure that everything is fine, you know.
EG: Checking your social media we saw that you regularly play at Madrid’s ‘Tortilla’. Do you hold a residence there? What’s the night’s concept?
Depaart: It’s our baby! Tortilla was born two years ago and it’s a small evening party every Saturday. A tortilla tapa is included with the entrance (laughter)… We play there, usually once per month, and we invite many artists that we like, past guests include Maribou State, Tom Trago, Jennifer Cardini, Tom Demac, Rex the Dog, Simian Mobile Disco and many others.

EG: Talking about Madrid. Which are the best clubs/nights to check in the city?
Depaart: We were talking about this the other day because now there are so many things going on in Madrid that it’s even hard to follow. There are at least 10 very cool clubs in the scene and another 5 private clubs (members only/no time restrictions) that host cool parties. We particularly like Fluido in Stella!
EG: If you have to choose one special night in 2019. Which one would you select and why?
Depaart: Then we’d have to choose the night before our set in Jasna1 in Warsaw, Poland. We went there the day before to have a drink around and it was our friend and promoter Kacper’s birthday. He said that he was just going out for one beer and then home because his party was actually the day after so that we should join, and eventually ended up going to bed at 3 pm. Epic. Looking forward on coming back if we are still allowed (laughter)…
