Flashmob: “I just love to play so I always have fun behind the decks”

Since its formation in 2011, Flashmob has adapted both in its personnel and style of music, as well as evolving into a multi-faceted brand boasting two record labels and an international radio show. However, although the project has expanded, the core principles remain the same – creativity, ambition and a tireless work ethic to push the boundaries of dance music, both in the booth and behind the decks.

We had the chance to talk with Flashmob about his recent release on Elrow Music

Electronic Groove: Hey Flashmob, thanks for your time to chat with us. Your latest ‘Figital’ three-track EP recently came out via Elrow music. What was the inspiration to produce these tracks?

Flashmob: Hey, how are you today? This year’s Tomorrowland gig playing at Jamie Jones’ Paradise stage was the main inspiration to write this EP. Following my recent Elrow show in Cape Town, I really wanted to do something special on this event and it really inspired me. I played three times, first at Paradise, then at High On House and finally at the Floorfiller Festival, all in 48 hours. It was so intense I literally came back and finished the tracks in a few days.

EG: What was the most spectacular thing you have discovered in your trips to South Africa?

Flashmob: Let’s just say I hadn’t felt so free for a long time. I arrived on Wednesday and hired a four days guide, literally didn’t stop for one second. The nature and power of the elements are overwhelming. I think the Table Mountain did the job. Myself and my guide, Keith from Missing Link, arrived at the site around 7 pm. I had the opportunity to observe the whole view with the sun setting, and then on top of the clouds. It’s literally spectacular, I’m not surprised it’s one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature.

EG: What’s the ‘Mind Games’ name means?

Flashmob: It means the rapport between myself and I. Focusing on finalizing a production and how my initial idea takes over or surrender to the production process development. In other words, how our subliminal side influences the creativity purity.

EG: What would be your advice for new and aspiring producers?

Flashmob: Be yourself, make sure your motivation is real and for the love of music and no for other related things. Also, never give up!

EG: How’s your summer has been so far? Any special highlight worth sharing with us?

Flashmob: Well, Tomorrowland was fantastic as was Floorfiller Festival, but also Maas Festival in Ireland with Paradox, Puur in Holland… I played great shows this summer. I also had a massive time in London playing for Audiowhore… I just love to play so I always have fun behind the decks.

EG: Can you mention three things you can’t live without on the road when touring?

Flashmob: My own home shampoo, my anti-stress for the plane and my iPad, without them I am pretty stuck on a plane.

EG: Can you let us know a little more about yourself? What hobbies do you enjoy other than playing and producing music? Any guilty pleasure?

Flashmob: I am a sports maniac. I play tennis and practice Nordic Walking… Yes yes I am one of those fools with sticks on top of a mountain, but It makes me feel great. I have a beautiful wife who I love dearly and we share many passions, but the main one is shopping. I also love sushi and going to the cinema… I am relocating my house out of Milan to be able to practice more sports 🙂
