Flowers On Monday: “It’s always special and sometimes terrifying to release tracks that are so personal”

One hailing from the highest mountains, living in the wilderness, and overcoming his struggles to survive, takes on an adventure with his elephants to dust off his past – reaching out for new ambitions. The other originated from the deepest oceans, shifting dark, towering clouds to a glowing red, while the sky transforms into a fascinating palette of colors – changing each and every day. Two branded individuals, crossing paths at 48° 0′ N, 8° 0′ O, merging into a project of an extraordinary sound, produced and shared for the people, who need it. Flowers on Monday stands for music with a soothing foundation and a magical finish – one that implements their appreciation for the little things, which imprint themselves in every listeners’ heart and memory.

EG caught up with Flowers on Monday to learn more about the drop of their ‘Pirates of the Sun’ EP, its significance, their relationship with All Day I Dream, the Black Forest, and more.

EG: Hello guys! It’s a treat to have you here with us. How have you been? Where are you right now? How’s everything over there?

Flowers On Monday: Hey EG team, thanks for having us. We’re doing good after a long break in the studio. Haven’t lost any of our shining light yet 😉 Spring is just staring here at our hometown and we’re looking forward to playing live again.

EG: So, congratulations on the release of your return to ADID/In Waves with the release of your ‘Pirates of the Sun’ EP! What was the initial reception been like so far?

Flowers On Monday: After our two premieres, our listeners were able to hear the complete tracks for the first time and showed some massive feedback. We have deliberately chosen two tracks that reflect the range of different styles of the EP. The first reactions showed us that, already in an early stage of the release, everybody has their own favorite track. Each track is very individual but together they build a strong unit. Much love to everybody who has supported the EP so early.

EG: What is ‘Secret Place’ all about? Is there an underlying concept tying all of the EP together? What does this record mean to you on a personal level?

Flowers On Monday: It’s about imagination and that everyone has their own ‘Secret Place’ which is completely untouched and pure in constant balance. The songs describe different perspectives that stand as an example of one and the same principle.

A small idea that the opposite of love is not hate, but the fear of meeting oneself in the opposite. The opposite of hate would be trust. It’s always special and sometimes terrifying to release tracks that are so personal. We put all our soul, emotions and whatever we have into the music, but we guess that’s the special part about it.

EG: Sonically, what will fans of Flowers on Monday find on ‘Pirates of the Sun’?

Flowers On Monday: Of course, the typical nostalgic sound is present, but partly in a new guise. Our listeners will hear familiar and new soundscapes combined with new sounds.

“The Black Forest here in the southern part of Germany is and always will be our happy place. Nature is a huge part of our productions, it’s where we take our inspiration, power, and patience from”

EG: Why did you decide to go with All Day I Dream’s In Waves for this one? What is your relationship with the label like by now?

Flowers On Monday: Being part of the All Day I Dream family is something special to us. They always gave us the space to evolve and share our sound with the world. Staring from the old PHCK tracks to this new EP now. In the beginning, it was Lee (Burridge) who asked us if we were interested in releasing an EP on his new sister label In Waves. We couldn’t resist 😊

EG: You guys both come from the Black Forrest region in Germany, right? What does this place mean to you? Does it seep into your music?

Flowers On Monday: Always happy to answer this question and yes, that’s right. The Black Forest here in the southern part of Germany is and always will be our happy place. Nature is a huge part of our productions, it’s where we take our inspiration, power, and patience from.

EG: What would you guys say is the perfect setting to listen to ‘Pirates of the Sun’ from start to finish?

Flowers On Monday: It’s definitely an EP to free your mind from all the stress you have during the week. We thought a lot about the order of the EP, but in the end, we came up with ‘Pirates of the Sun’, ‘American Dream’, ‘Secret Place’ and ‘Magic Book’.

EG: Where would you like your music to take you? What setting or location would be the perfect backdrop to one of your sets?

Flowers On Monday: Hopefully our music will bring us to extraordinary places we have never seen before. We’re so open with locations because it’s the people we like to connect with. Of course, there are some spots we would like to visit but the list is long. Always thinking of tropical places, but who knows where all this would lead us. We’ll go with the flow!

“It’s about imagination and that everyone has their own ‘Secret Place’ which is completely untouched and pure in constant balance”

EG: What else can we expect from Flowers on Monday in the near future? What new milestones are you looking out for in the coming months?

Flowers On Monday: The All Day I Dream Festival in May is something we’re really excited about. The lineup is stunning and we’re proud to be part of the festival. Finally meeting all the artists will be amazing!

Our next EP with El Mundo will be released in April on Sirin Music with beautiful remixes of Raw Main and Erdi Irmak. We’ve known El Mundo for some time and it’s always great to team up with him!

EG: Thank you so much for your time, guys! We wish you all the best for the future!

Flowers On Monday: Thanks for having us and thank you for the support on our EP! Wishing you all the best!
