Hector Couto was one of the first Canarian artists to have an impact on the evolution of the modern and world-leading tech-house sound of electronic dance music, and has produced for almost all the major house and tech-house brands in the industry for the last half decade. Now, the producer is set for a tell-all appearance as part of Aulart & Amnesia’s Bootcamp ‘Successful Strategies for Professional DJs in Ibiza’.
We caught up with Hector Couto to talk about his involvement in the Aulart & Amnesia Bootcamp, his area of expertise, the significance of Ibiza, and his future projects.
Electronic Groove: Hi Hector, all good? Let’s dive into it. How did the collaboration with Aulart and Amnesia, to participate as an instructor in the Bootcamp ‘Successful Strategies for Professional DJs in Ibiza’, how that come about?
Hector Couto: Hi there! Well, I’ve always had a very good relationship with the entire Amnesia team. Luca Donzelli is a great friend of mine, it was him who initially told me about this very interesting project in association with Aulart. I’m really delighted to collaborate with him and, of course, with the Amnesia and Aulart teams.
Electronic Groove: From your point of view, what is special about this Bootcamp?
Hector Couto: Aulart stands out for making high-quality content and if I have something to highlight about this Bootcamp, it is above all the closeness and professionalism of the entire team that teaches it. I know it first hand, as I have worked with Amnesia for many years and I can say that they are an incredible team, they are experts in their work and very friendly.
Electronic Groove: You will be teaching the module ‘Case Studies: The importance of producing to get ahead’, can you tell us something about the module and the methodology you will use?
Hector Couto: As part of the module I will speak from my personal experience, the learning I have had over the years, and how my achievements in music production have been positively projected in my professional career.
Electronic Groove: How important is Ibiza to boost the career of a DJ?
Hector Couto: Ibiza is the Mecca of electronic music at another level. Since all the people in the industry are always present on the island, there can be many opportunities that as a DJ you can use to your advantage.
Electronic Groove: Do you think something will change in Ibiza after 2 years of inactivity on the Island?
Hector Couto: I don’t think so, I have always been optimistic and I think that people will return to Ibiza with more desire than ever to enjoy the island and its music!
Electronic Groove: We see that your Roush Label has not stopped releasing EPs during this period (2 EPs per month approx), how do you select the artists who will produce for your label?
“Ibiza is the Mecca of electronic music at another level”
Hector Couto: Well, I always let it flow… I release a lot of music from friends and also from new artists, I have always valued the quality of the music above everything else and I think that is reflected in the course of the label over the years.
Electronic Groove: What projects, releases, releases or remixes do you have coming up?
Hector Couto: Well, there are many interesting things that I cannot wait for to happen, a lot of music, releases, and a project of a mini-documentary that I recorded on my last tour in Colombia and Argentina in 2020 (just before the pandemic) that I will share in September.
Electronic Groove: Do you think the scene will change in 2022? Besides the obvious (security measures, etc.), what do you think is circumstantially different?
Hector Couto: I hope that yes, that 2022 will be better than this year, but in my opinion, there will be many things that will never be the same as before… we have to weather the storm and we will enjoy the scene as we have never done it before, with more enthusiasm than ever!!
