Innellea: “We’ll go through this and we all will be back stronger than ever”

Innellea – a neologism; created in reference to musical reinvention. Neither restrained nor bound by conventions, Innellea’s visions and impressions are visibly transferred into music.

Influenced by melodic trends in electronic music he combined the roots of techno in a very creative way and came up with his unique and abstract sound.

We caught up with Innellea to talk about his latest musical projects.

Electronic Groove: Hi Innellea, we hope you are well and safe. How have you been feeling during the pandemic days?

Innellea: Hey EG people, thanks for the chat and I hope you’re well and safe, too. It’s a weird mixture of feelings to be honest. There are some days where I feel like I am part of the band that plays while the Titanic is sinking, but also there are days where I have so many creative ideas and I am super motivated, more than ever. In my opinion, the only way to go through these difficult times is to stay positive even if it’s hard sometimes. We should use the time for creating new concepts and do things that usually suffer from the super busy world we rush through.

EG: Is this giving you more time to reflect and do other stuff aside from music, or are you more driven into producing music?

Innellea: I try to do both as much as I can. As there’s a lot of new music that is signed already, I am in a very comfortable situation. I don’t feel any rush, so now I have time to develop my workflow in the studio, work on new sounds and to experiment with different types of music and collaborate with other artists which I really love at the moment. But I am also developing some very nice things together with my close friend and manager Sanny and I can’t wait to show them to the world!

EG: You have been active in terms of releases during the last months. Can you share more details about what’s planned in the coming months in terms of releases with us?

Innellea: I can tell you that this activity won’t rest. There’s a collaboration EP with Kevin De Vries on the way which includes three songs. I have another big thing signed already which got postponed due to the crisis, and there’s a remix I recently finished for Edu Imbernon. Also, I’ll release the track ‘Isolated Humanity’ which I already uploaded on YouTube with amazing 3D-arts by Vincent Schwenk on Spotify end of May/beginning of June.

EG: What does it take to make a great dancefloor track?

Innellea: Innovative sound-design in combination with a strong kick drum and groovy drums. It’s not always necessary to have a strong melody.

EG: What would be your advice for other musicians and artists at this time?

Innellea: Think outside the box, be focused and clear about who you are, where you want to go and make all the necessary moves to reach that certain point.

EG: Just before this break we knew that your partner in this project took his own route. How do you feel after this decision?

Innellea: It feels natural for both of us. I am still in close contact with him and can’t wait to have some beers with him when we’re allowed to.

EG: What’s your latest ‘Behind The Track’ project. How often are you planning to release new videos?

Innellea: The next ‘Behind The Track’ is already recorded. This time it’s a live session where I perform an unreleased song from scratch. I want to release them regularly, but I have no exact schedule for it. Whenever I feel it’s cool to share the idea behind something.

EG: Moving back into the uncertainty of the current situation with COVID-19, the music industry could face some tough times, more specifically clubs and events. Do you foresee a new direction of the business side of it?

Innellea: We’re definitely facing tough times at the moment so it’s necessary for clubs, events but also for artists to work on new concepts to stay alive. Maybe now the time has come to organize some sort of concerts for more ambient-ish kind of music with amazing sound systems where people can just sit (to keep the minimum distance) and get sucked into the music. For me, it’s hard to imagine a rave without any hugs, deep talks, and dancing with friends in confined spaces. Without all this, the magic that makes a night unforgettable is lost. But we’ll go through this I am pretty sure and we all will be back stronger than ever. One thing is sure it’s now more important than ever to stay united.

EG: What’s your favorite thing of being a DJ?

Innellea: To meet all these great people in the world for sure. And to express myself through music.
