Max von Sternberg: “I couldn’t be happier with the response to this EP”

Max von Sternberg’s enigmatic brand of melodic techno deftly gears the deeper spheres of electronic music toward the dancefloor. Since his 2020 debut EP, ‘Forgiveness’, on Munich’s prestigious Musica Autonomica, known for a sure hand in selecting future heavyweights for their catalog, the Berlin producer has quickly drawn the attention of some of the genre’s most interesting and impactful artists. ‘Forgiveness’ has since been remixed by genre notables Fur Coat, Toto Chiavetti, Ruede Hagelstein, and Innellea. Max’s tracks freely oscillate between solemn and uplifting and unfold an unparalleled hypnotic power in the club setting. His productions are artfully minimal, giving intricately designed sounds the space to unfurl to their full character. Drawing inspiration from art, architecture, and contemporary culture, Max delivers deep, anthemic soundscapes with a high recognition value.

EG caught up with Max von Sternberg to learn more about the drop of ‘Love Is The Law’, collaborating with Alice Rose, and his plans for this Summer.

EG: Hi Max! Welcome to EG. Always a pleasure to have you here with us. Where are you based right now? How have you been?

Max von Sternberg: Hey Electronic Groove, I’m doing well, seeing people dance again makes me feel much more relaxed. I’m currently based in Vienna.

EG: Congratulations on the release of your ‘Love Is The Law’ EP on New Tab Music! What has the initial reception been like so far?

Max von Sternberg: So far I’ve only gotten good feedback, when I played the tracks people seemed to like them a lot, and also the feedback from the scene was super positive, I couldn’t be happier with the response to this EP.

EG: Particularly, this one sees you liking up with Alice Rose on both tracks. What was the process for these like? Did you have a concept before you even got started, or did it come along the way?

Max von Sternberg: Since we live separately, we sent files to each other, she sent me vocals that I edited, and the result is the two tracks you can listen to.

EG: New Tab Music is a rather ‘young’ label. Why did you decide to drop ‘Love Is The Law’ with them? What was it that caught your attention from New Tab Music?

Max von Sternberg: New Tab Music is pretty new, that’s true, but it had a professional and strong presence from the beginning. The tracks that came out, the artwork, and all that was just to my taste. So I sent them demos, and now we have this great result.

EG: Summer is just around the corner, and we’re guessing you must have big plans ahead of you. Where can your fans catch you playing this summer? What highlights are you looking forward to?

Max von Sternberg: Summer is already here! I love summer and its festivals. I just came back from the Lighthouse Festival. The next planned shows are Deichbrand Festival and other nice gigs I’m preparing for right now.

EG: Thank you for your time Max! We wish you all the best for the future!

Max von Sternberg: Thank you very much, I will be working hard on my projects to show you a lot more in the next months. I can’t wait to present the next things that are in the making. I appreciate you taking the time to talk to me.
