Rogue D is the new solo project from Danny Minchella. Under this new moniker he delivers the eagerly awaited ‘Chains’. Set to be one of the biggest tracks of the year, it’s a high octane, club-ready number with abundant driving percussion. Unstoppable force Patrick Topping is also back on home ground for the remix.
We had the chance to talk with Rogue D about his recent Hot Creations release.
Electronic Groove: Hey Rogue D, thanks for the time to chat with us. Congrats for your new Hot Creations release, so far has been on top on the Beatport charts. How do you feel about this achievement?
Rogue D: Hi guys, thanks very much for this interview. I’m very happy that ‘Chains’ is going so well on the charts and that it’s being played a lot by worldwide Dj’s.
EG: Where it was recorded and how was the process to produce it?
Rogue D: The process of making the track was very fast – I played around with some samples for the bassline and made the majority of the groove across a single morning. Then I searched deep in my collection, looking for that special kind of vocal. Eventually, I came across Steve Silk Hurley’s ‘Chain of Fools’ (with Aretha Franklin on the original vocal), tried it out, and it just made the record pop!
EG: A Patrick Topping remix is also included. Are you happy with his re-interpretation?
Rogue D: Patrick’s remix is a banger! Could fit in every club set… ¡I love it!
EG: Summer is about to end. How was it for you?
Rogue D: It was very nice, I played a lot of gigs but I can’t wait to start the new season… a lot of new gigs coming soon!
EG: Any special gig worth mentioning?
Rogue D: I did an open air gig at Baraccano in Bologna for Studio54, that was amazing, the crowd was just WOW!
EG: Are you working on new material? Any sneak peak you can share with our readers?
Rogue D: Yes of course! I have a vinyl only release on Raw / Housewax that is entitled ‘Resampled’ that will be out September 30th. A remix for the Italian duo Nice7 that was just released on their label called DFloor. A 3-track EP to be out November 2nd on Riva Starr’s Snatch! Records, and a track called ‘He Can Dance’ that will be out on October on a Bewild Records VA.
EG: What was your favorite “bomb” of the summer?
Rogue D: There’s a lot of tracks out there that I love but the one I’ll play for a long time is ‘Watching’ Out’ by Dirty Channels that was released on Athens of the North in July.
