WHY Records: “We bring the live storytelling experience into the NFT world”

We welcome the future. Introducing World Has You Records (WHY), a convergence of two new friends Kris and AlmaD. An instant and natural connection through their love of music was born, and with it organically grew an idea to create an exciting new record label concept in the crypto world – combining art and music.

EG had the pleasure to sit down with WHY Records label owners to find out more about their exciting NFT label concept.

EG: Hey Guys, it’s a pleasure to speak with you about your exciting new NFT collection on your record label World Has You (WHY) Records – how did the label come about and why choose to release as NFTs?

WHY: Thanks for the invite. Kris and AlmaD were having a meeting about their new idea to start a sophisticated record label in the crypto space that combines art and music. Searching and brainstorming WHY they wanted to start a label, they came up with a trinity of a vision.

  • High-quality exclusive music and art for the community.
  • Discovering and developing new talents.
  • Create memorable experiences.

The main difference between NFTs and normal releases is that NFTs are collectibles, which means they have a signature of authenticity in the blockchain. There are limited amounts of copies of each release/collection and in the case of World Has You, the NFT is a blend of original storytelling artwork and music from illustrators and producers/DJs.

EG: Tell us more about the NFT collection, what inspired the collection?

WHY: The idea came through with the interest in the emergence of NFTs and Blockchain. It also supports the creators and artists directly.

Our first collection, ‘Welcome To The Real World’, has different elements of inspiration. The first element is the artwork, which expresses in a sophisticated way the labor work in Africa of the valuable stones combined with musical storytelling by AlmaD.

EG: AlmaD has been a name we have known for some time for his emotive dance music, how does this differ from other musical projects he is involved with?

WHY: AlmaD indeed has been most known for his storytelling DJ sets, his great production skills, and his unique energy. So far, he has been releasing music either as singles and EPs on all digital platforms by PlayHouse Time Records, but the main difference now is that, with World Has You, he can bring the live storytelling experience into the NFT world. The first collection has 3 different versions of the mixtape, and the audience can choose which story they want to listen to. The bronze one is a 15-minute storytelling experience while the Silver and Gold are 30 and 60 minutes accordingly.

EG: Tell us more about the artist Kevin Philippe, how did that collaboration come about?

WHY: Kris met Kevin Philippe while he was traveling in Mexico. Collaborating together with him in his earlier life brought the idea to work together again. The idea was to bring two artists together and create one collection that is focusing on two types of art. Visual art and sound art.

EG: Are there any other NFT collections or cool music NFT brands you recommend we keep an eye out for?

WHY: Yes! These we love:

EG: What else do you have planned for WHY Records in 2022 and beyond?

WHY: There have been talks about launching an exciting competition to allow new artists to release an NFT collection with our label, so keep an eye out for that!

We are also exploring the opportunity to run more virtual events and parties at Decentraland.
