Jay Haze has passed away, as confirmed by long-time friend and collaborator Marc Schneider, who shared memories of their time together and described him as “one of the most creative people I’ve ever known.” The cause of death has not been disclosed.
Originally from Philadelphia, Haze released music under several aliases — including Fuckpony and Sub Version — across respected imprints like BPitch, Cocoon, and Soul Jazz. He also ran his own labels, TuningSpork and Contexterrior.
Known for his raw, experimental approach, Haze often collaborated with Ricardo Villalobos, Samim, and others, while remixing artists like DJ Hell & P. Diddy and Gui Boratto. His acclaimed 2009 mix ‘Fabric47’ launched DJs for DRC, a humanitarian campaign aiding victims in the Congo.
Schneider’s tribute acknowledged his complexity: “There were hard times alongside the good… but Jay was a true and dedicated friend.”
