With a background as a DJ, vocalist, and producer, her artistic evolution continues to gain momentum with her latest release, ‘When You See Me’. Known for her dynamic stage presence and career roots at Ministry of Sound Australia, Jesabel’s sonic journey has taken her from marquee global venues to a more refined and emotive sound.

EG caught up with Jesabel to talk about her latest single, her bold approach to music marketing, and the values driving her creativity and growth.

EG: Hi, Jesabel! Welcome to EG. It’s a pleasure to have you here with us. How have you been? Where are you right now?

Jesabel: Thank you for having me. I’ve been really well thanks. I’m currently in London!

EG: First of all, congratulations on the release of your latest single, ‘When You See Me’. We can imagine that excitement is still sky-high. How are you feeling about this one? What has the initial reception been like?

Jesabel: Thank you so much. Yeah, I’m so excited to have this one in the world. I honestly couldn’t wait for people to hear this one. You’re always pumped for each release but it is for sure one of the records I’ve been most looking forward to releasing. The initial reception has been so warm. I’m blessed to have had some incredible support so far and am so grateful for all the people that have streamed and played ‘WYSM’!

EG: So, what’s this one all about? What can your fans expect to find on ‘When You See Me’?

Jesabel: ‘WYSM’ was created to be a dance floor groover. I was determined to write a really hooky vocal and addictive bass line to draw people in and get them singing and dancing! Everyone’s interpretation will always be different but it’s been tried and tested a fair few times and always keeps the d-floor grooving – the best!

EG: By the way, in line with the release, you got to host the Enhanced Sessions International Women’s Day 3-hour special. What was that experience like, and what did it mean to you?

Jesabel: I did! What a time, what an occasion. I’ve always loved the idea of radio hosting so to be given the almighty opportunity to take over from the man himself Farius for the IWD episode was really special. Highlighting the incredible women of our industry was and is an absolute honour. I count myself so lucky that I get to share this career with some unbelievably talented, strong and inspiring women. What a privilege!

EG: The past few months have been a bit of a rollercoaster for you with your move to London, right? Can you share what this experience has been like so far? In which ways has it changed you?

Jesabel: I’ve actually been here for 2 years now but rollercoaster is the word for it and sometimes I feel like I can’t get off! Haha. London to me is the land of opportunity – it’s endless. The lifestyle difference between Sydney and London is no joke and I’m reminded of that every time I visit home. It’s definitely made me more independent, determined and resilient. For anyone who lives or has lived in London, you quickly realise that this city is not slowing down so you either ride the wave or you don’t. Protecting my peace where I can and focusing my mental health has been really important for me.

EG: By the way, we did love your marketing action in King’s Cross promoting ‘When You See Me’! Can you tell us how that came about? Can we expect any more out-of-the-box marketing antics?

Jesabel: I had a lot of fun doing this! The marketing team over at Enhanced Recordings and I came up with this campaign idea. I love thinking out of the box when it comes to marketing each and every record. It’s not enough just to put music out anymore. While the music does and should speak and tell a story, thanks to social media we have never been more visual beings. Telling that story via social media is incredibly important and it also gives people insight into who you are as a person. This is the part that I really love about it. You can always expect “out of the box” from me!

EG: Getting to know the person behind the artist…are there any hobbies or passion projects other than the music driving you?

Jesabel: Reading, infrared yoga, matcha and solo dates! That has been me lately. I’m really enjoying the pockets of self-love and self-discovery in my life at the moment. These things have carved a little space of late and they are here to stay!

EG: Now, on to the state of the scene…What do you see as the biggest challenge for the music industry in the next few years, and how do you think artists can adapt?

Jesabel: I think the industry is in a really interesting place – for a start there has never been more music being distributed each week than there is right now. This makes it feel impossible to cut through the noise at times. Because of this, creating music can be so “trend” lead for some. Trends never hang about for too long. Due to the sheer number of artists and music, those people in “decision-making” positions at labels, management companies, agencies, venues etc. are more reluctant than ever to take a chance on new and emerging talent – when you see it from their perspective you can totally understand why as well.

My approach (and advice I guess) is to stay truly authentic to yourself, this will always shine through. You can’t deny good music will always cut through at some point. Consistency and persistence are absolutely key – the most important thing in my opinion. Always be willing to evolve and adapt – be flexible while staying true to your core beliefs and continuing to do what sets your soul on fire.

EG: Looking forward, what can we expect from Jesabel in the coming months? Are there any incoming releases we should be looking out for? Where can your fans catch you next?

Jesabel: Definitely more music! My focus right now is just sitting in my creative bubble – I’m loving it. My event brand ‘No One Above’ with dear friend and fellow DJ, Carina Lawrence, will be revealing some cool things soon – check it out @noapresents. A few cool secret projects in the works too (hate to be that girl…sorry!). Really can’t wait to announce all of that stuff. Very exciting times!

EG: Thank you so much for your time, Jesabel! We wish you all the best for the future. Take care!

Jesabel: Thanks so much for having me!
