Kings Of Leon guitarist and co-songwriter Matthew Followill has announced his debut solo album under the electronic alias CMF, to be out on June 19th, 2026. The 26-track LP, titled ‘If We’re Apart, I’m Somewhere Missing You,’ marks a distinct departure from his traditional stadium rock roots.

The project features a mix of ambient music, folktronica, acoustic instrumentation, and cinematic sound design. Followill wrote and recorded the material during his time off the road, focusing on organic textures and hypnotic synthesis.

Speaking about the project, Followill explains:

“The idea for making this music came from the joy of creating and experimenting with everything I’ve collected over the years. I wanted it to reflect what I gravitate to as a listener: organic instrumentation blending with ambient textures. It’s personal and instinctive, inspired by long days on the road where time loses meaning, and the world feels cinematic, atmospheric, and immersive. Created without agenda or expectation, it’s music that lives in the space between coming and going, made for daydreaming with nowhere to be for a while, letting your thoughts drift somewhere between memory and possibility.”

‘If We’re Apart, I’m Somewhere Missing You’ has been conceived as a complete listening experience. While releasing twenty-six compositions in one collection may seem ambitious in today’s singles-driven landscape, it was always Matthew’s intention for the listener to absorb the project as a cohesive whole, allowing its blend of ambient, indie, acoustic and folktronic influences to unfold naturally across the full journey.

Musically, the extensive collection relies on fluid, washed-out guitar atmospheres, delicate pads, and drifting arpeggios. Tracks like ‘Our National Treasure’ and ‘Morningness’ highlight the record’s emphasis on understated rhythms and grain-rich textures.

The unexpected crossover project has already garnered early support from several prominent underground electronic music figures, including DJ Sprinkles, Mano Le Tough, and Massimiliano Pagliara.

With CMF, Matthew Followill presents his musical heritage in an entirely new light, offering listeners a more exploratory and deeply personal side of his artistry. The result is a record that feels both unexpected and entirely natural; a collection of reflective, transportive compositions that embrace the space between memory and possibility while revealing a musician continuing to evolve, explore and create on his own terms.

‘If We’re Apart, I’m Somewhere Missing You’ will be out on June 19th, 2026.
