Kompakt has released the latest chapter of its long-running ambient series, ‘Pop Ambient 2026’. Now in its 26th edition, the compilation continues the project’s exploration of quiet transformation and subtle emotional resonance.

Rooted in Heraclitus’ river theory—“everything flows, nothing remains”—the release frames its musical journey through ideas of constant change. The familiar phrase “Same Same but Different. Always different – always the same.” sets the tone for a collection that moves gently between repetition and renewal.

This edition brings together trusted contributors from earlier years alongside new voices within what Kompakt describes as a non-hierarchical field of contemplative sound. Japanese artist Micå leads the compilation with two finely sculpted pieces. Another debut comes from Richard Ojijo, a seasoned engineer known for work with artist Marcel Odenbach and the Cologne label Magazine. Oskø, also known as Max Hytrek, introduces ‘Ar Vag’, a piece marked by its expressive, rising energy.

Returning artist Sebastian Mullaert appears for the second time, joined by Sebastian Lilja, also known as Hush Forever. Following his return last year after a two-decade pause, Tetsuo Sakae, or Pass Into Silence, contributes a new work, while Dirk Leyers of Closer Musik and Mikkel Metal also rejoin the series.

Across 18 tracks, the compilation closes with Segensklang’s ‘Erlösung’, an ambient bolero that unfolds toward a seemingly endless horizon. Once more, visual artist Veronika Unland provides the cover design, expressing through her digital floral motif the idea that the eye, too, can listen.
