Swiss DJ and producer Laolu just debuted on Damian Lazarus’ label, Crosstown Rebels, with his highly anticipated release entitled ‘Now I See’.
Teaming up with Off The Meds frontman Kamohelo Khoaripe, Laolu presents a personal two-track EP that has been crafted over the span of a decade, following the birth of his daughter.
The title track, ‘Now I See’, is an uplifting and evocative production that combines soulful female vocals, organic percussion, and sweeping melodies, creating a warm atmosphere that is perfect for heartfelt dancefloor moments. On the other hand, ‘Monday To Sunday’, featuring the powerful vocals of Kamohelo, takes a slightly darker turn, with swirling bass patterns, haunting synths, and distorted tones converging around a commanding flute, resulting in a commanding late-night track.
Laolu shared the inspiration behind ‘Now I See’ explaining, “It is the culmination of an untouched demo that I had held onto for over a decade. The birth of my daughter gave me a newfound vision and clarity of mind to bring it to completion. For ‘Monday to Sunday’, I wanted to push boundaries and collaborate with Kamohelo Khoaripe, the frontman of Off The Meds. I have always admired their track ‘Belter’, and I wanted to create something unexpected by blending techno influences, afro vocals, and a heavily distorted oriental flute.”
